Palette

Extract dominant colours and suggested harmonies from any raster image, with copyable hex values. Free add-on for MediaHub licence holders.

Palette is a free companion module for MediaHub licence holders. It analyses a raster image and shows dominant colours plus suggested harmonies — monochromatic, complementary, split complementary, analogous, triadic, and tetradic — each with a copyable hex value.

Colour extraction runs entirely in the browser against an already-generated thumbnail. Nothing is stored on the server and there is no database schema.

Palette is an add-on, not part of the core MediaHub module. Download it from account downloads → Add-ons, install the zip, then refresh modules. See Add-ons for the overview.

Where to open Palette

Palette appears in three places once the module is installed:

  1. MediaHub field (Detail view) — on a source image card, open Actions and choose Generate under the Palette heading. Requires MediaHub 1.22.0 or newer for the Actions menu. See Field actions.
  2. Library asset detail — the quick toolbar beside the preview image includes a Palette button for raster assets. See Asset detail page.
  3. Standard ProcessWire image fields — a Palette button sits beside Crop, Focus, and Variations on each image. Requires ProcessWire 3.0.212 or newer (InputfieldImage::getImageEditButtons). No MediaHub field is required for this entry point.

The Palette modal

The modal shows:

  • Dominant colours — the most prominent hues in the image, with approximate coverage percentages.
  • Suggested harmonies — generated from a base colour (the most vivid dominant colour by default). Click any swatch to use it as the new base.
  • Custom pick — click the preview image to sample a specific pixel.
  • Copy — copy a single hex value or all values at once.

Configuration

Open Modules → Site → Media Hub Palette to adjust:

  • Number of dominant colours — how many swatches to show (3–10, default 9).
  • Suggested colour harmonies — enable or disable individual harmony types.

Limitations

  • SVG images are not supported — the browser cannot sample them reliably for colour extraction.
  • Very small or low-contrast images may return fewer distinct swatches than configured.
  • Native image fields need ProcessWire 3.0.212+; older versions only get Palette through MediaHub fields and the library.
