Docs SEO NEO Version 1.x Field Mapping Visualiser

Field Mapping Visualiser

See where title and description values come from when smart-map fallbacks fill the gaps. Chain icon in the page editor, via labels on the SEO Preview Bar.

Requires SEO NEO Pro. Module: SeoNeoFallbackChain.

When seoneo_title or seoneo_description is empty, SEO NEO falls back through your smart-map fields, template defaults, and (for title) the page title. The Field Mapping Visualiser shows editors exactly which step supplied the value that will appear in search results.

Where it appears

Surface What you see
Page editor (SEO tab) Chain icon next to Title and Description. Click to open a popover listing every fallback step. The winning step is highlighted. Use this copies a fallback value into the primary SEO field.
SEO Preview Bar Full via … chain labels under title and description on the SEO & Meta panel. The same chain appears on Open Graph (og:title, og:description) and Twitter / X because those tags reuse the resolved title and description. Requires the preview bar to be installed.

The fallback order

For each key (title or description), SEO NEO checks sources in order. The first non-empty value wins:

  1. Primary SEO field (seoneo_title / seoneo_description)
  2. Smart-map fields (configured in Modules > Configure > SeoNeo > Smart map)
  3. Template default for that template
  4. Page title (title key only)

Configure smart-map in free SEO NEO. The visualiser reads that same config; it does not introduce a second mapping layer. See Smart-Map & Fallbacks for syntax and examples.

Example

Smart-map config:

title=headline,title
description=summary,body

If seoneo_title is empty but headline has content, the chain summary reads:

headline ← seoneo_title

Meaning: the resolved title comes from headline because the primary field was empty.

Multilingual sites

When LanguageSupport is active, the popover shows per-language values for each step in the chain.

Install

  1. Install free SEO NEO (1.1.8 or later).
  2. Copy or symlink SeoNeoFallbackChain into site/modules/.
  3. Modules > Refresh → install SeoNeo Fallback Chain.

No database tables and no module config screen. Optional: install SEO Preview Bar for frontend via labels.

For developers

$fc = $modules->get('SeoNeoFallbackChain');
$chain = $fc->getChain($page, 'title');
$trail = $fc->getChainSummary($page, 'title');

Chain logic lives only in this module. The preview bar calls getChainSummary() and does not reimplement resolver rules.
